Johor Darul Ta’azim (JDT) II defender Dominic Tan Jun Jin has expressed his disappointment at Malaysia Under-22 coach Frank Bernhardt after not being given the chance to feature in both of the Nations Cup matches against Singapore and Thailand at the Hang Jebat Stadium.
The ex-Harimau Muda C skipper was listed as one of the key players in Frank Bernhardt’s Project 2017 SEA Games squad, alongside Faris Shah, Adam Nor Azlin and Farhan Roslan. However, he was forced to warm the bench during both games of the inaugural tournament.
“I was extremely upset after not being given a chance to prove myself in at least one of the two matches by the head coach (Frank Bernhardt),” Dominic Tan told FourthOfficial.com.
“It is always an honour to play for Malaysia and I am sad that I did not even play a part.
Malaysia defeated Singapore 3-0 after goals from Safawi Rashid, Syafiq Ahmad and Nur Syamie helped them advance to the final. They were then beaten 2-1 by 2015 SEA Games winners Thailand after Nur Syamie’s equalizer was not enough to help them lift the trophy.
“I thought we had a good chance of winning the Nations Cup after the great win over Singapore. Unfortunately for us, the Thailand team just wanted to win it more than us.
Dominic Tan vowed not to give up and will work hard to be a part of the SEA Games squad.
“I want to continue improving and will prove my worth when given the chance to play.”
