National badminton player Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin has admitted that he is not ready to replace Datuk Lee Chong Wei as the number one player when he retires in two years.
Iskandar said that he still has a lot to learn because Lee Chong Wei is miles ahead of him.
“I have never thought of replacing him (Chong Wei) because I am not done learning. I have to focus on my personal goals at the moment,” Iskandar said as quoted by Berita Harian.
“I have a long way to go to catch up to him because he is a living legend.
The 25 year-old, who is the national number two, has been touted as the ideal replacement for Lee Chong Wei because of his young age and his vast improvement since last year. On the other hand, Lee Chong Wei has challenged the youngsters to rise to the occasion and take his place as the national number one player in the next Thomas Cup in 2018.
Iskandar Zainuddin wants to be amongst the top ten players in the world in two years.
“I can rush it but I rather take my time and improve on my level of playing.”
