FELDA United’s Irfan Bakti makes U-turn on Thiago Fernandes decision

FELDA United head coach Irfan Bakti has confirmed that striker Thiago Augusto Fernandes will stay at the club despite interest from Malaysia Premier League side Malacca United.

Malacca United team manager Datuk Yusoff Mahadi declared his interest for the Brazilian because Thiago has not been registered as one of FELDA United’s foreign players this year.

“We will bring him (Thiago) into the squad for the the remainder of the Malaysia Super League (MSL) season and the Malaysia Cup,” Irfan Bakti said as quoted by Sinar Harian.

“There will be a change in terms of foreign players, but a decision is yet to be made.

“The other clubs who are interested in acquiring the services of my player can forget it.”

The decision to include Thiago Fernandes in the team comes as a surprise for two reasons. Firstly, this is a U-turn on his statement several weeks ago, where he claimed to be open to receiving offers for Thiago.

Secondly, this will definitely have an effect on their current foreign player line-up, which consists of topscorer Francis Forkey Doe, creative attacking midfielder Zah Rahan Krangar, hardworking midfielder Lutfulla Turaev and tough-tackling defender Gilberto.
