The national badminton squad failed to advance to the final of the Thomas Cup after losing to Denmark 3-2 despite being two games up at the Kunshan Sports Centre in China tonight.
Datuk Lee Chong Wei and Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong earned the points for Malaysia, whereas Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Chong Wei Feng were ousted by Hans Vittinghus, Kim Astrup-Anders Rasmussen and Emil Holst respectively.
Malaysia would have faced Indonesia if they had won. They have faced each other eight times in the final of the Thomas Cup (Indonesia – 6 wins, Malaysia – 2 wins) with the last time where both countries won the Thomas Cup, it was against each other (1992 & 2002).
The Malaysian contingent went absolutely crazy on social media after witnessing their country squander an important two-game lead against the European-based team.
