A new format for qualifying sessions will be introduced in this year’s Formula One season as part of the change that will help the motorsport become more compelling, according to F1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone.
The change was confirmed by Bernie yesterday, after it was voted in unanimously during a meeting amongst members of the Formula One group.
“The idea really is that it will be the same as qualifying in wet conditions,” Bernie told Sky Sports. “Maybe one or two of the hot-shoes aren’t going to make it [to the front]. So we won’t see the obvious on the front of the grid.”
But whether the change gets introduced in 2016, depends on whether it gets ratified by the World Motor Sports Council on the 4th of March, before the season opener in Melbourne on the 20th of March.
