“The FA Cup is destined to come home” — Ex-Johor defender Azmil Azali

“I’ve been waiting 18 years for the FA Cup trophy to return on Johor soil.”

That was what former 1998 FA Cup winner and Johor FA player Azmil Azali said prior to the biggest game of Johor Darul Ta’azim’s (JDT) so far on Saturday against PKNS in Shah Alam.

According to the ex-defender, a possible triumph will go down in history among Johorians.

“I was one of the players who featured in the FA Cup final against Sabah in 1998. That was by far my sweetest day as a Johor FA player,” Azmil Azali said as quoted by Harian Metro.

“I hope and pray that the beautiful victory will be repeated. The Southern Tigers are the better team on paper, but The Red Ants are the ‘underdogs’ and will do whatever it takes to upset the bigger team. The Johor players must be careful and not take PKNS for granted.

Johor Darul Ta’azim almost tasted success in 2013 but lost 1-0 to Kelantan in the final.

Azmil Azali was part of the national team that lost the 1996 AFF Suzuki Cup final to Thailand.
