Chong Wei and Co depart for Thomas Cup mission in China

The Malaysian contingent that will be competing in the Thomas Cup, have officially left for Kunshan, China as they bid to reclaim the tropy for the first time in 24 years.

Led by national shuttler Dato’ Lee Chong Wei, the Malaysian contingent flew to China via the Kuala Lumpur International Airport earlier today. Competition in China will undoubtedly be intense, though Badminton Association Malaysia’s Morten Frost claims that the shuttlers are in their best shape.

“All our players are free from injuries thus allowing the national contingent to possess a strong line-up,” he told Berita Harian.

“This is the time for the players to prove themselves and I hope they will display their best performance there,” he added.

The last time Malaysia won the Thomas Cup was 24 years ago, when Rashid Sidek spearheaded the nation to a close 3-2 triumph over rivals Indonesia, in the final.
