Cameroonian goalkeeper Jeanine Christelle Djomnang passed away after collapsing during a warm-up session with her club, yesterday.
The 26 year-old goalkeeper, was said to have been ill before her team’s – Femina Stars Ebolowa – match in the country’s top flight league. She had chest pains prior to the game, but eventually collapsed during the warm-up session
As reported by Cameroon’s football federation, she succumbed to cardiac arrest on her way to the hospital, though a detailed medical report is currently being produced, to analyze the actual cause of her death.
Cameroon’s African Women Footballer of the Year, Gaelle Enganamouit, expressed her condolences on her social media.
“It’s with sadness that I have learnt of the death of my team-mate Djomnang Jeanine Christelle of Femina Stars Ebolowa, may her soul rest in peace,” she said.
What’s more saddening is that this news came only 2 days after another Cameroonian footballer, Patrick Ekeng, who played for Dinamo Bucharest, collapsed on the pitch while playing in a fixture against Viitorul. He was 26 years old.
RIP Patrick Ekeng. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family, Be at peace Patrick. pic.twitter.com/nB3mMUzUWz
