TMJ sets sights on buying AC Milan

Johor Darul Ta’azim (JDT) owner Tunku Ismail ibni Sultan Ibrahim has set his sights on becoming the new owner of Italian Serie A side AC Milan in the not too distant future.

The Regent of Johor (TPRMJ) is well-known for developing The Southern Tigers as a force to be reckoned with in Asia, especially after winning the AFC Cup for the first time in history last season. Tunku Ismail recently unveiled their brand new RM15 million training facility in Padam Seri Gelam and is currently involved in the planning of a 40,000-seat stadium.

“I am planning to buy AC Milan but we will have to see how it goes. I love Milan and I have always loved Italian clubs since I was young. The main focus is always JDT but if I can buy a club in Europe, it’ll be AC Milan,” Tunku Ismail said at his residence as quoted by MStar.

Tunku Ismail also added that both parties are in a discussion stage at the moment.

“Who knows? I hope that AC Milan and JDT can work together in the near future. This will be a direct collaboration instead of a very small collaboration. That will be very direct.”

The 31 year-old will join the likes of Tan Sri Tony Fernandes (Queens Park Rangers), Tan Sri Vincent Tan (Cardiff City) and Datuk Dr. Noordin Ahmad (FC Bari 1908) if he buys AC Milan. This deal also means that both AC Milan and Inter Milan will be owned by Southeast Asians. Indonesian business Erick Thohir is the current president of Inter Milan. AC Milan is owned by former Italy Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who has given the sign to sell the club.
