National men’s double duo, Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong will be hoping for a better finish at the Asian Badminton Championships (ABC), which will be held in Wuhan, China after their early exit at the Singapore Open last week.
Despite having booked their spots for the 2016 Rio Olympics, the Malaysian pair still have strong incentives to increase their world ranking, which directly influences the severity of their draw in Rio.
“We did not perform well at the Singapore and Malaysian Open. We need to be more prepared, especially in terms of training, to achieve a good result at the ABC,” V Shem told Utusan Malaysia.
“Also, we are not consistent – something we definitely need to address before the Olympic Games,” the 26 year-old explained.
V Shem-Wee Kiong will open their ABC campaign with a tie against Singaporean duo Terry Hee-Loh Kean Hean.
Besides them, Datuk Lee Chong Wei and Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin will also be taking part in the men’s singles department, alongside Tee Jing Yi, Goh Jin Wei and Ho Yean Mei in women’s singles. Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei, Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying and Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing will also be a part of the national contingent.
