National diver Pandelela Rinong was awarded the 2015 SAM-100 Plus Best Athlete award.
The 23 year-old beat the likes of Datuk Lee Chong Wei, Datuk Nicol David, Al-Jufri Jamari and Loh Jack Chang to win the award for the third time, after winning in 2010 and 2012.
“I am pleased with this award, and this will definitely give me the boost to continue to perform in every championship,” Pandelela Rinong said as quoted by Bernama.
“My main focus in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio later this August,” she concluded.
The Sarawak-born athlete will receive a trophy and RM10,000 in cash. She was voted as Best Athlete by the SAM members after picking up bronze medals in the 10m platform event at the World Championships in Kazan and the Diving World Series in Windsor last year.
Goh Jin Wei was awarded the 2015 SAM-100 Plus Best Young Athlete award, the Wushu Federation of Malaysia received the award for being the most dynamic association and Johor Darul Ta’azim (JDT) was awarded a special honour for winning the 2015 AFC Cup.
