National men’s doubles Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong were the only glimmer of hope for Malaysia when they defeated Philippines’ Peter Gabriel Magnaye- Alvin Moranda in the first round of OUE Singapore Open at the Singapore Indoor Stadium yesterday evening.
The duo took only 27 minutes to advance to the next round after winning 23-21, 21-5.
The 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medal winners will take on first seed pair Lee Yong-Dae and Yoo-Yeong Seong later today to stand a chance of competing in the quarter-final.
Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, Teo Kok Siang-Hoon Thien How and Khang Tai An-Yew Hong Kheng all have been eliminated from the OUE Singapore Open after suffering first round defeats. National women’s singles player Tee Jing Yi was not good enough as well as she lost 8-21, 14-21 to Thailand’s Nitchaon Jindapol in a little more than half an hour.
