The Malaysian contingent failed to impress in this week’s Moto2 race as Hafizh Syahrin was only able to end the race in 16th spot at the United States Grand Prix, ending his streak of podium finishes.
Racing under PETRONAS Raceline Malaysia, Hafizh finished the race with a time of 41m 51.515s, trailing 1.743s behind Idemitsu Honda Team Asia’s Takaaki Nakagami (Japan).
The 21 year-old had no excuses for his disappointing performance and publicly apologized to everyone for his poor showing.
“I’d like to apologize to the sponsors and the team. I am disappointed with this result because I know I could have provided a better finish to the race,’ he said as quoted from Berita Harian.
“I worked hard throughout the race and at one point i was on P11. I wanted to continue being in the front but I encountered some issues with my front tyre.
“I almost crashed on few occasions because of it. Nevertheless, I thank the team for their hard work and I’ll continue to work hard for the next race.
Hafizh is currently 9th on the riders’ standings with a total of 23 points – 54 points behind leader Sam Lowes of Federal Oil Gresini (Kalex).
