Following his sensational victory at the Argentina Grand Prix, the Perak state government has approved an incentive of RM100,000 for teen Moto3 rider and Batu Gajah native Khairul Idham Pawi as recognition for his achievement.
Perak Chief Minister Zambry Abd Kadir believes that the incentive will further motivate him to do well and hopefully inspire other Malaysians to chase after their dreams.
He also went on to clarify that the state government had initially allocated RM60,000 to assist him, though the amount was increased, considering that Khairul himself had applied for financial assistance prior to his departure to Argentina.
“He had appealed for the allocation through Abdullah Fauzi (Kampung Gajah state assemblyperson) and the application was submitted to me personally by Shahrul Zaman Yahya (Youth, Sports and Human Resource Committee chairperson),” he said as quoted from Bernama.
“We later approved RM60,000 but by then he had already left to Argentina and the money was channeled to the Kampung Gajah Community Service Centre. After his success, we added another RM40,000 as incentive.”
“I hope people will not claim that the Perak state government had only come forward to provide assistance after Khairul has won a race,” he added.
