National athletics head coach Zainal Abas has squashed speculations claiming that Badrul Hisyam is currently nursing an injury that supposedly forced him out of the Perak Open.
The national sprinter was due to compete in Ipoh, though he eventually missed the meet – a decision he made by himself and had nothing to do with an injury, according to Zainal.
“Badrul did not compete at the Perak Open because he was invited to take part in a Pre-SUKMA tournament in Johor on the same date,” Zainal told Harian Metro.
“Despite Badrul not being from Johor, he was invited to help boost the preparations of Johor athletes that will be competing in SUKMA,” he explain.
Zainal went on to add that Badrul is currently preparing for the Philippines Open, which is due to take place in two weeks’ time.
“He is currently undergoing his routine training at th Tunku Mahkota Johor Sports School,” Zainal added.
