“Non-BAM players are welcomed to join Thomas Cup squad”

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has opened its doors to players under private clubs to help strengthen the national squad for the upcoming Kunshan Thomas Cup in May.

The likes of Koo Kien Keat, Tan Boon Heong and even Liew Daren are all no longer officially tied to BAM, though the association is now willing to include them in the Thomas Cup squad.

According to the Technical Director of BAM, Morten Frost Hansen, the players will be required to sign a special contract stating their agreement with several terms and conditions.

“Through this contract they need to follow every set of the guidelines, including the attire used, training methods and several other rules in the related area,” said Frost as quoted from Utusan.

“Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong have a bright chance to be in the national team but for now we have yet to decide on the players for the Thomas Cup because there are so many other tournaments under consideration.”

“We have until May 1st to decide but it might be done earlier,” he added.

Meanwhile, Chong Wei Feng will become the latest shuttler to depart BAM in May, ending his tenure with the governing body, which lasted for over 10 years.
