Following a series of worries regarding the financial position of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) after Maybank announced it will not be renewing its five-year deal, the association can finally heave a big breath as they have signed a three-year deal worth RM24mil with Celcom Axiata Berhad.
This would be the second major sponsorship secured BAM, the first being an RM60mil six-year deal with equipment supplier Victor last March.
Maybank decided to not renew their contract after a string of misunderstandings. Since then, the association was on a search for quite a number of big companies or government-linked companies (GLC) to fill in for sponsorship.
“We are grateful for Celcom Axiata’s sponsorship. Hopefully, this can be a platform to lift up the badminton standards of the nation,” said Deputy President of BAM Tan Sri Mohamed Al-Amin Abdul Majid as quoted from Sinchew.
“The sponsorship will be used to develop the sport, for players’ incentives, prepare for major tournaments and many more.”
“We want to share and support the BAM. The RM10mil will be used to promote the sport in the media throughout the country.”
