Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin is confident that national squash ace, Datuk Nicol David will be able to handle the pressure piled on her during the PSA Women’s World Championship in Kuala Lumpur, next month.
Khairy said, as a professional squash player, Nicol is not a stranger to the amount of pressure one can face, especially when it comes to the highest level. But he was also quick to insist that there was no reason for fans to pile additional pressure on local athletes.
“Let’s give our undivided support to Nicol and the rest of the players and not put them under pressure,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama
“We always hope for the best from the Malaysian players and we do not feel the need to put extra pressure on them,” he added.
Alongside the world number 2, Malaysia will also be represented by Delia Arnold and Low Wee Wern, the former world number 5.
Nicol is scheduled to meet her ardent rival, Rachael Grinham in the first round of the competition while Wee Wern will be going against New Zealand’s Joelle King.
