National lawn bowls star, Siti Zalina Ahmad failed to defend her title at the 2016 Australia Bowls Cup after losing in what was a close final battle.
The two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist witnessed lost to 61-year old Carmen Anderson from Norfolk Island in a closely contested match that was held in New South Wales, Australia. The match concluded with the scores 5-6, 6-7.
Despite being 1st runner-up in the championship, the 37-year old athlete is content with her achievement – admitting to the fact that Anderson deserved the title this time around.
“I tried my very best to secure the title and become champion for the second time but the results were not on my side this time around,” she told Utusan Malaysia.
“In the first and second sets, I got off to a slow start. I was always chasing after Carmen and she performed very well today. I lost to a foe who has much more experience.
“Nevertheless, I’m congratulating myself for the effort I showed in the match earlier,” she added.
