“I didn’t think I’d qualify for Rio” – Welson Sim

National swimmer Welson Sim is determined to erase his dark memory at the FINA World Championship in Kazan, Russia last year and vows to produce a better result in the upcoming Rio Olympics this August.

Welson qualified for two event by merit and despite the pressure, he is determined to display his best performance in order to score a chance of a triumph in the prestigious event. The teen will be taking part in the 200m and 400m men’s freestyle event in Brazil.

“Before the championship in Singapore, I didn’t think I was able to book the two slots but I’m grateful that I actually made it. I admit I was quite nervous during the World Championship in Kazan,” said Welson as quoted from Berita Harian.

“I have learnt a lot and improved many of my weaknesses in Kazan. From the mistakes I made, I tried to channel my mind in a positive direction.”

“Without the painful experience, I would not be able to get up to this level.”

Welson also believes that the other swimmers- namely Daniel Bego, Khoo Cai Lin, Jinq en, Wong Fu Kang and Kevin Heap- are able to qualify themselves before the deadline in June.
