National women’s doubles duo Vivian Hoo Kah Mun and Woon Khe Wei have successfully made it ot the quarter finals of the Switzerland Open Grand Prix Gold- better known as Swiss Open- after downing English pair Heather Olver and Lauren Smith in the St Jakobshalle Arena yesterday.
The Malaysians won the opening set 21-14 but fell short 19-21 to claim a rubber set in the second one. However, the two bounced back and secured their victory 21-16 within an hour to book their slot in the last eight of the tournament.
The pair will be having a quarterfinal clash withThailand’s Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai, whom easily downed Kristina Gavnholt and Sabrina Mattle from Czech Republic/Switzerland in two straight sets 21-14, 21-11.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pairing Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong failed to keep up their pace as they were ousted 17-21, 14-21 by Danish duo Mathias Christiansen and David Daugaard in the second round.
Former aces Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, who were defeated by their juniors in the All England last week, recovered fully and did the nation proud when they mustered a speedy win over Thailand’s Puavanukroh Dechapol and Kedren Kittinupong 21-10, 21-16 in just 21 minutes to set foot in the quarters.
The pair will either play against England’s Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge or Taiwan’s Liao Min-chun and Tseng Min-hao in the next round.
