Khairul Fahmi determined to forget disastrous 2015

Kelantan shot-stopper Khairul Fahmi is determined to help Malaysia’s revive its fortunes on the international arena and effectively move on from 2015’s frustrating incidents.

The Malaysian national team suffered several embarrassing defeats last year, including a 10-0 defeat at the hands of UAE in September. Khairul Fahmi – or Apek as he is fondly known – was part of the squad that received widespread criticism from fans.

But with Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s tenure signalling a new era, Apek is determined to turn over a new leaf and help the national team silence its critics this year.

“This is Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s first match in charge of us [vs Saudi Arabia] and we’re definitely looking to try our best and hopefully get a positive result from the match,” he told Harian Metro.

“We don’t want to be criticised by fans again. We want a positive result for our country and for ourselves,” he explained.

After having played 7 matches, Malaysia are currently at the bottom of the Group A table, with only 4 points.
