Synchronized gameplay for Playstation 4 and XBox users?

What a day to be alive for gamers!

Microsoft have just announced that XBox Live will offer its online service to gamers on other platforms. What does that mean? To put it in the simplest way possible, players on XBox One and Windows 10 using XBox Live will be able to play with players on other online multiplayer networks – including other consoles such as the PlayStation 4 and PC.

This also means that cross-platform games like ‘FIFA’, ‘GTA IV’ and ‘Call of Duty’ will be able to be played online between gamers on an XBox One, Playstation 4 and PC.

However, exclusive-only games would not be able to fit the criteria. For example, ‘Halo’ is exclusively an XBox game and gamers on PlayStation 4 and PC would not be able to experience it. ‘The Last Of Us Remastered’ is solely a Playstation 4 game and XBox users will never be able to play it on their platform.

To make this happen, Sony have to be on board with Microsoft’s idea of enabling a cross-network support across their Playstation network (PSN). Sony have been dominating the gaming industry for years while Microsoft have been playing catch-up. It is only wise for Microsoft to work together with Sony in order to be able to compete with them.

‘Rocket League’, a physics-based vehicle soccer video game, is getting cross-platform support for XBox One and PC, while it has already a cross-platform support between Playstation 4 and PC. Despite that, all three platforms are not linked between each other.

Will ‘Rocket League’ be the first to kick-start an entire revolution for the gaming industry?

Let’s wait and you shall see.
