The reigning Malaysia Super League (MSL) and AFC Cup champions have been invited to play in a pre-season friendly against 10-time La Liga winners Atletico Madrid next year.
Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, who is the majority shareholder of Atletico Madrid with 52%, extended his invitation to Johor Darul Ta’azim (JDT) owner Tunku Ismail ibni Sultain Ibrahim during a dinner in Madrid last week.
The Crown Prince of Johor was surprised with Miguel’s decision to invite them for a friendly.
“Mr Gil Marin, in particular, surprised me when he invited JDT to Madrid to play against his club during pre-season in 2017,” TMJ posted on the Johor Southern Tiger’s Facebook page.
“Besides forging close ties with them, this working trip has provided useful knowledge for JDT in various football aspects such as facilities, expertise, technicality, academy and marketing.
“I believe the partnerships formed will benefit the Southern Tigers greatly in the future and ensure the progress of Johor football,” Tunku Ismail concluded on Facebook.
