Harimau Malaysia head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee has just announced his 23-man squad to face Saudi Arabia (24/3) in their last 2018 World Cup/2019 Asian Cup qualifier and Macau (29/3) in an international friendly.
The ex-Harimau Muda A coach has asked the players to report in at different dates because a number of them have Superbest Power FA Cup commitments with their clubs.
Eight out of the 23 players in the list are currently playing for Johor Darul Ta’azim (JDT), including national team captain Safiq Rahim, in-form defender Fazly Mazlan and Aidil Zafuan.
There remaining fifteen players consist of four players from Selangor, three players each from Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu and a player each from Pahang and Perak.
Ong Kim Swee surprisingly excluded The Southern Tigers goalkeeper Farizal Marlias from the 23-man squad, who has been excellent between the JDT goalpost this season. He only managed to make the list as a part of the five reserve players, which included Ahmad Fakri, Gurusamy Govandar, Adam Azlin and his JDT teammate, Nazrin Nawi.
Here’s Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s first squad for the upcoming games later this month:
