All England: Chong Wei suffers shocking first round exit

National badminton ace Lee Chong Wei was on a run to seal his fourth All England title in Birmingham this week but the confident shuttler’s hopes triumph in his favorite championship were shattered into pieces after he was sent packing in just the first round.

The former top seed met with India’s B Sai Praneeth in his opening match as his supposed opponent P Kashyap withdrew from the championship due to a knee injury sustained recently.

It was indeed an intense match as Praneeth pulled off an upset by taking the 33 year-old down in two straight sets 22-20 and 24-22. The defeat sent a shockwave to the crowd and had viewers gasping in disbelief over the three-time champion’s loss.

“I can’t believe I lost in the first round,” said Chong Wei after the tournament as quoted from Yahoo.

“Maybe I have got a lot of pressure on myself to win this tournament. I made a lot of mistakes. Although I was shocked at how well Praneeth played.”

“But it is all a learning process, I am sad to lose at a tournament like the All England but my aim is the Olympics.”
