In one corner, we have Barcelona striker Lionel Messi, who has won the Ballon d’Or a record five times, seven La Liga titles, four Champions League medals and three Club World Cups. He constantly proves with his feet day in and day out that he is literally from another planet.
In the other corner, there is Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who has won the European Golden Shoe a record four times, three Ballon d’Ors, four league titles (EPL & La Liga), two Champions League medals and two Club World Cups. He also breaks goalscoring records for fun on a regular basis for both club and country.
We can go on and on about these two players, but who is the better player?
A Nigerian man was murdered after having this debate with a friend in Mumbai yesterday.
According to Hindustan Times, the incident happened at the victim’s own birthday party:
Police said the man who was killed, Obinna Michael Durumchukwa, 34, was celebrating his birthday with his friend Nwabu Chukwuma, 22, at a rented flat, when they started to argue over who the better player was — the Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo or his counterpart at Barcelona, Lionel Messi.
Durumchukwa flung a glass at Chukwuma, which missed him and broke against the wall. Chukwuma then picked up a shard of glass and cut his friend’s throat in a fit of rage, said police inspector, Kiran Kabadi of Tulinj station.
We all may have our opinions on who the better player is, but we also have to acknowledge the fact that these two players are extraordinary on their own, and the world would not be a better a place without them. Can you imagine how it would like when they both retire?
Not in a million years.
