Seems like the Maybank Malaysia Open will be sporting a new name soon this year.
With Maybank pulling out as the main sponsors of the Malaysian Open Super Series Premier, the status of the championship this upcoming April has become the talk of the town and to end the ongoing tittle-tattle of the matter, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) stated that the new sponsors will be revealed after March 21.
The General Secretary of BAM, Ng Chin Chai claimed that the final discussion of the topic is still underway and the new sponsors are willing to provide incentive worth USD50,000 (RM2.3 million).
“We can assure you that there is a new sponsor and we will only make an announcement after the deal is done, which will be after this March 21,” he said as quoted from Berita Harian.
“We are trying to sign a long-term deal with the new sponsors because we would really hope that they would continue to be a part of this Super Series Premier tournament in the future.”
Maybank has been one of BAM’s main sponsors since 2011 but due to misunderstandings and issues between the two parties, they decided to end the deal earlier than supposed, leaving BAM on a search for replacements.
Previously in January, Deputy President Tan Sri Mohd Al Amin Abdul Majid stated that the association has negotiations with several government-linked companies (GLC) to replace Maybank as the main sponsors.
