2016 LTdL: Andrea Guardini wins Stage Seven at the last second

Astana Pro Team (AST) rider Andrea Guardini won his third stage of the 2016 Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) after narrowly beating Stage 6 winner Jakub Mareczko of Southeast (STH) at the seventh stage today. The Italian has now won 21 stages in LTdL history. Skydive Dubai’s (SKD) Andrea Palini completed the podium line to ensure all three Italians on it.

The AST cyclist finished the 202.3km race with a time of 4 hours and 47 minutes. This stage started in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan and ended in Parit Sulong, Johor. Stage Seven is the longest stage in the 2016 LTdL race.

Dimension Data (DDD) rider Reinardt Janse van Rensburg retained his Yellow jersey for General Classifications after coming in fifth place. He is ahead Daniel Alexander Diez of UnitedHealthcare (UHC) and Miguel Lopez Moreno of AST in the overall standings.

Stage winner Andrea Guardini retains his Teal jersey for Points Competition with 73 points, 26 points ahead of Andrea Palini with 47 points. 2016 LTdL ‘King of the Mountain’ Wang Meiyin of Hengxiang Cycling Team (HEN) retained his Red jersey for Mountains Competition.

The best Malaysian rider of the day was Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) rider Mohd Hariff Saleh who finished just outside the podium in fourth place.

The eighth and last stage begins tomorrow at Batu Pahat, Johor and ends in Malacca.
