Harimau Malaysia head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee has announced that the national team will meet Macau for a friendly match at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Malacca on March 29.
The friendly will take place because Harimau Malaysia does not have a game on the last day of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers/2019 Asian Cup qualifiers. They play their last Group A match against Saudi Arabia at the King Abdullah Stadium in Jeddah on March 24.
“We fly back to Malaysia on the 25th morning after meeting Saudi Arabia in Jeddah, and head straight to Malacca until the day of the friendly against Macau on the 29th.
“We tried contacting a few teams but most of them have a qualifying match on that day.
“In the end, Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) agreed with officials from Macau to participate in our friendly because they do not have a game on that date as well. We also approached the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) but they did not get back to us,” Ong Kim Swee told www.fam.org, yesterday.
According to the FIFA rankings, Malaysia is World No. 171 whereas Macau is World No. 195.
The ex-Under 23 coach is hoping for a win against Macau to improve their ranking.
The list of players that will be called up to the Harimau Malaysia training camp is expected to be announced on March 13, before they leave for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on March 20.
