Selangor in talks with Manchester City over potential collaboration

The Football Association of Selangor (FAS) is still evaluating the need to use the expertise of English Premier League club Manchester City to develop their football academy program.

According to team manager Amirudin Shari, the meeting with Manchester City representatives yesterday went well, but at the same time, the association is considering whether to accept the offer from Inter Milan or use a specialist service in the country.

“It is still very early to decide because we have to be sure of the best model that will be used for the academy. We want a model that will benefit us most,” Amirudin told Harian Metro.

“Apart from Manchester City, we are still in talks with Italian giants, Inter Milan. However, we are not worried because if the collaboration with these clubs do not work out, the football academy will still carry on with the help of local coaches and former players.”

The Red Giants manager also said that FAS is allocating a budget of RM2 million for the establishment of the football academy, which will accommodate players under the age of 18.

“Selangor have a lot of young and talented players, so we would like to determine these players from a young age until they turn 21. We intend to apply the style of play and philosophy of Selangor football to these group of young players.

“Our goal in the next seven or eight years is for Selangor to have the most number of players from their academy,” Amirudin added.
