Astana Pro Team (AST) rider Andrea Guardini proved his worth with a win in the first stage of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) today.
This marked the Italian’s 19th LTdL stage win after finishing the 166.6km challenge which started in Kangar, Perlis and ended in Baling, Kedah, clocking in at 4 hours and 25 minutes.
Brenton Jones of Drapac Professional Cycling (DPC) came in second place while Skydive Dubai’s (SKD) Andrea Palini completed the podium line after coming in third place.
Not only did Andrea Guardini win the Yellow jersey for General Classification, but he was also awarded the Teal jersey for the Sprints Competition.
The Red jersey which symbolizes the King of the Mountain was awarded to Wang Meiyin of the Hengxiang Cycling Team (HEN). He won all three of the climbing stages.
The best cyclist from Malaysia was Terengganu Cycling Team’s (TSG) Hariff Saleh as he achieved a tenth place finish.
The second stage begins tomorrow at Sungai Petani, Kedah and ends in Georgetown, Penang.
