*Warning: Arsenal fans may need to read with caution, in case of broken screens and unwanted rage.
The world should step aside and start to wonder about bigger problems, for example: Will Arsenal ever see the light of a Champions League win?
It was yet another blow for the Gunners as they were unable to dribble their way past the Catalan giants Barcelona. The Spanish side took power of the Emirates stadium to gun down (no pun intended) their opponents 2-0 to book their win in the Round of 16 early this morning.
Arsenal are on the brink of claiming their sixth consecutive last-16 exit in the Champions League and unless they can prove their weak performance otherwise in the next three weeks in Nou Camp, that’s ‘lights out’ for them.
Arsene Wenger seems to be rather disappointed with his men this time round as the Frenchman feels like there was room for them to beat the former champions on home ground.
“Barcelona are through 95% but we want to go there and play. We will no go there and have absolutely no chance,” he told reporters as quoted from Eurosport.
“I felt there was room to beat them tonight, that is the biggest regret I have.”
“We felt we could win it and lost our cautiosness to defend. Especially as we knew it was vital not to give them a counter-attack which is when they are most dangerous.”
Wenger’s words precisely.
Arsenal played fairly well in the first half but the second half was a long shot. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain almost scored for the team but seems like the Catalans showed the Ox what the real Toro looks like. Olivier Giroud too was in for a close-range header but luck was clearly not on their side today.
There was not much to see from the MSN triumvirate in the start of the game. Neymar showcased his talents once again through his slick dribbles and the real deal made its way in the second half. The tension from two sides elevated with a strong force and we saw how both teams were determined to bag a goal. Giroud’s header was saved by Marc Andre Ter Stegen in the 60th minute and just after eleven minutes, Lionel Messi pumped up the decibels in the crowd as he finally scored 1-0 with the help of his South American team mates. Neymar turned and passed the ball to Luis Suarez before kicking it towards to Brazilian again just to have him lay it across the penalty area for the Argentinian.
Arsenal was seen to be rather fired up and the game upped a few notches. In the 83rd minute, Francis Coquelin was subbed by Mathieu Flamini and the Frenchman made an awful contribution a terrible move on Messi in his first minute on the field to grant Barca a penalty- and Messi scores as expected.
2-0 gap now and Wenger seems to be losing his soul. Could Arsenal level with Barca in 10 minutes? The answer is no. The game ended and Arsenal was seen in a devastated form.
What didn’t end, was- wait for it- the Twitter reactions!
