Penang star Faiz Subri hungry for more world-class goals

Pulau Penang midfielder Faiz Subri wants to score more world-class goals because he believes the ‘wonder goal’ he scored last Tuesday that shocked the world, can be repeated.

He was delighted when the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) sent a letter to FIFA nominating his free kick against Pahang in their Super League clash for the top ten of the 2016 FIFA Puskas Award. He also added that he wants to score more goals like that.

“I’m grateful towards FAM for recommending me to FIFA for that goal. I do not have high hopes for getting nominated because it will come down to God’s will,” Faiz said to Harian Metro.

“I know there have been talks of luck involving my goal. In fact, there was no luck because I wanted to shoot the ball using that specific technique.

“God willing, I will try to score a goal of a similar class. Who knows if it goes in again,” he added.

FAM confirmed they sent a letter to FIFA with a copy of a video of Faiz Subri’s goal.

Cristiano Ronaldo won the inaugural FIFA Puskas Award in 2009, followed by Hamit Altintop in 2010, Neymar in 2011, Miroslav Stoch in 2012, Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2013, James Rodriguez in 2014 and Wendell Lira last year.
