FINA Diving World Cup: Jun Hoong-Dhabitah secure Rio slot

The national diving squad proved their sheer brilliance and continued their stellar pace as they managed to bag the seventh Rio slot in the Brazil FINA Diving World Cup.

Duo Cheong Jun Hoong and Nur Dhabitah Sabri, whom already qualified for the event individually, placed themselves fifth among twelve divers in the 3m women’s springboard with a total of 301.5 points in the Maria Lenk Aquatic Centre yesterday.

The gold medal was ultimately handed to China’s power duo Shi Tingmao and Wu Minxia,  whom secured 339.6 points, followed by silver medalist Canada with 312.27 points courtesy of Jennifer Abel and Pamela Ware. Australia’s Samantha Amy Mills and Esther Qin took hold of the bronze with 307.5 points.

The sixth slot was booked on Saturday morning when diving queen Pandelela Rinong and partner Jun Hoong swept the silver medal in the 10m women’s springboard.

The other five slots were achieved through individual events. Ooi Tze Liang managed to book both the 3m springboard and 10m men’s platform whereas Pandelela and Dhabitah qualified through the 10m women’s platform. Wendy Ng Yan Yee joined her compatriots after a sterling result in the 3m springboard.
