Johor Darul Ta’azim (JDT) began their FA Cup campaign with a 5-0 win over UiTM FC at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam earlier today.
JDT went to the game with a strong squad, with Hariss Harun and Marcos Antonio in the starting line-up. Jorge Pereyra Diaz and Juan Martin Lucero was on the bench.
The Southern Tigers started the game well with Safee Sali taking a shot from outside the box two minutes into the game, before Azinee Taib drilled one just above the bar.
Singaporean international Hariss Harun almost kicked things off for JDT but his effort was saved by UITM goalkeeper Pavel Matiash on the 11th minute.
Amri Yahya broke the deadlock after heading it in the goal on the 13th minute which sent the JDT fans into ecstasy.
Former Perak striker Eliel da Cruz came close to scoring for UITM, but saw his shot went wide.
S. Chanturu doubled JDT’s lead on the 31st minute, before scoring again five minutes later.
On the verge of half-time, Amirulhadi Zainal scored the fourth goal of the game after a smart pass by Amri Yahya from a free-kick just outside the box.
The first half saw JDT controlling possession as they were unopposed by the University side.
After the break, JDT immediately started where they left off in the first half with two attempts from Azinee Taib and Jorge Diaz.
Chanturu could have capped his game with a hattrick, but was denied twice by the on-form Kyrgyzstan goalkeeper.
Jorge Pereyra Diaz scored the final goal of a game after a brilliant through ball from JDT and Harimau Malaysia captain, Safiq Rahim.
Juan Martin Lucero could have made it six from the penalty spot but Pavel Matiash stopped it from going in.
The Southern Tigers advanced to the third round of the FA Cup.
