BATC: Malaysia suffer 1-4 defeat against China

The women’s team fared well in their opening match as they secured a 3-2 victory over Hong Kong yesterday to book a slot in the quarter finals of the ongoing Badminton Asia Team Championship (BATC) in Hyderabad, India yesterday. However, their bid to top the group stage have come to an end after a disastrous turn of events just now.

The ladies, whom appeared strong despite the absence of seniors Tee Jing Yi and Soong Fie Cho due to injuries sustained recently, could not repeat their heroics today playing against top guns China.

Ho Yean Mei, whom was defeated during the first match yesterday, failed to recover from her lost as she was completely ousted by Wang Shi Xian within two straight sets 21-19 and 21-12.

Scratch pair Amelia Alicia Anscelly and Vivian Hoo were not able to level with their opponents when Luo Ying and Luo Yu easily extended their nation’s lead to 2-0 after downing the Malaysians 21-14, 21-11.

However, things got a bit better with the help of young badminton ace Goh Jin Wei. The 16 year-old, whom granted Malaysia the ultimate win against Hong Kong after her victorious deciding match, served up a point for the nation by defeating world no.11 Sun Yu 21-13, 21-16.

Chow Mei Kuan and Lee Meng Yean were unable to erase the gap between China as Tan Yuan Ting and Yu Yang proved themselves powerful to the duo. The two lost 18-10 halfway before retiring from the match.

Chen Yu Fei bagged China’s next win when she defeated Lee Ying Ying, ultimately thrashing the Malaysian side 21-14 and 21-6.
