MSL 2016 #FabFour of the Week: Matchday 2

What a week it has been. There was plenty of action on Tuesday night and if you’ve not seen Faiz Subri’s astounding goal against Pahang by now, I’d deduce that you’re living inside a cave!

Penang were absolutely brilliant as they claimed a comprehensive 4-1 win over Pahang, in which Faiz was undoubtedly the star man with two goals. Perak on the other hand, fell to frustrating 0-1 defeat in Perak, thanks to an early penalty strike from Patrick Ronaldinho.

JDT got their first win of the season, beating T-Team 2-0 in Kuala Terengganu, while Sarawak succumbed to their second defeat of the season as Felda completed a 2-1 win over them in Kuching.

At the same time, Kedah produced a clinical performance to claim a 1-0 win over Terengganu while Datuk Seri Vida was in a terrific mood after watching Kelantan secure three points against PDRM. So without wasting time, here’s your MSL #FabFour of the Week!

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK: Khairul Fahmi Che Mat – Kelantan FA

Two games, two clean sheets. You can always count on Khairul Fahmi. Last Tuesday, he was pivotal in Kelantan’s 1-0 win over PDRM. There was so much of pressure on the Red Warriors, especially after their poor 0-0 draw against Perak last week, and if not for Apek, things could have been a lot worse this week. Dramane Traore scored the key goal of the game, but PDRM had their fair share of excellent chances as well, particularly in the second half. He denied PDRM’s star man Ali Ashfaq on several occassions, though the way he handled and organized the back line was far more impressive.

DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Bang Seung-Hwan – Kedah FA

Kedah gained all three points as they defeated Terengganu 1-0 at home, and no doubt it was because of Bang Seung-hwan’s rock-solid performance at the heart of Kedah’s defence. Terengganu tried their best to break down Kedah, but the South Korean was outstanding as he read the game like a book. He also managed two attempts during the game. His partnership with Khairul Helmi is bound to grow stronger as the season progresses. Though he did commit a minor error in the first half, his overall performance was a major contributing factor in Kedah being able to claim three points on the day.

MIDFIELDER OF THE WEEK: Zah Rahan Krangar – Felda United

Just how good is this guy?! He’s been so influential for Felda United over the last 12 months or so, and sometimes his good work goes unnoticed. But this season though, he’s been drawing attention – thanks to his goals. Leave alone the fact that he scored a goal in their 2-0 win over Kedah last week, Zah Rahan turned on the style against Sarawak on Tuesday night, helping the Settlers clinch pivotal three points away from home, with his well-taken goal.

FORWARD OF THE WEEK: Faiz Subri – Penang FA

This is a no-brainer, isn’t it? He was so crucial in their impressive Premier League run last year, and on Tuesday, it was obvious why. Jackson Tiago opted to use him as the focal point of their attack and it paid handsome dividends. Three minutes into the game and he scored a brilliant left-footed strike to make it 1-0. But midway through the second half, he produced a goal that’s been trending worldwide for the last 36 hours or so. Penang FA look fantastic this year and judging by Faiz’s performance on Tuesday, they could very well be the team to watch this year.
