2010 Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Josiah Ng believes that Malaysia has what it takes to win more medals through track cycling if more world-class talents were born.
The former national cyclist said that the country cannot depend on national hero, Azizulhasni Awang just to bring home a medal at the upcoming Olympic Games because many unforeseen things can happen from today until the day of the event.
“That’s only part of the problem. We’re constantly relying on him. This has to be changed,” Josiah said, as reported by Utusan Malaysia.
“We need more cyclists like Azizulhasni. We cannot possibly depend on him forever because he will eventually retire someday.
“He definitely has a chance (to win a gold medal at the Olympics) because Azizulhasni is a champion among champions, perhaps one in a million, but there are also others who are currently training hard to compete with each other,” he concluded.
