National golfer Gavin Kyle Green has high hopes of a stellar achievement in the first ever Maybank Malaysia Championship- which will commence on Thursday in the Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC)- and to showcase his talent and ability as a professional player.
Gavin, currently sponsored by Maybank, was promoted to a professional player just last year after a stunning performance as an amateur player.
“It’s not easy being a professional player. As an amateur player, everything I did was with my team, but now I have to do everything on my own,” said Gavin as quoted from Berita Harian.
“It’s a big leap but I like it. I’ve long dreamt of becoming a professional player.”
The championship will offer a grand prize worth USD3million (RM12.39 million). The 22 year-old, training under new coach Chris O’Connell is working hard in attempt to gain the luxurious incentive.
“I need to be consistent and I want to try something new, so I started working with Chris.”
“Now I’m much more comfortable. Every time I start a a game, I want victory, but it’s not easy. I hope I get to shine this week.”
Gavin will be playing against elites such as Englishman Danny Willet, South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen, Germany’s Martin Kaymer and local favorites Danny China and Nicholas Fung.
