The Maybank Championship Malaysia Trophy was unveiled at a press conference at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur earlier today.
The event was officiated by Chairman of Maybank, Tan Sri Dato’ Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor and the Chairman of Royal Selangor International, Tan Sri Yong Poh Kon.
The trophy was designed and manufactured by Royal Selangor to look like the “Tiger”, which is the renowned symbol of Maybank. The trophy weighs almost five kilos and measures 550m x 340mm in height.
The Chairman of Maybank said that the design of the trophy is the symbol and pride of Malaysia. He also showed his appreciation to Royal Selangor for agreeing to work side by side in making this tournament a success.
“This trophy will help us to inspire spirit as it is the start of a new journey of promoting the Maybank Championship. In addition, we will play a part in nurturing the pursuit of professional excellence in golf in Southeast Asia,” he said.
“I am delighted that Tan Sri Yong Poh Kon decided to work with us. I am glad to see Royal Selangor improving in marketing and also manufacturing,” he added.
The Chairman of Royal Selangor expressed his joy for being the official trophy maker for the Maybank Championship Malaysia.
“We have created a work of art with Maybank and set a new milestone in the arena of golf trophies in Asia,” he said.
Royal Selangor has also crafted trophies for Formula 1 Grand Prix races in Singapore, Malaysia and China; the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000 and the WTA Wuhan Open 2014.
The Maybank Championship Malaysia will take place on the 18th to 21st of February at the Royal Selangor Golf & Country Club.
