POLL: Datuk Ong Kim Swee – Is he the right man for the Malaysian job?

Football Association of Malaysia confirmed the appointment of Datuk Ong Kim Swee as the new national team head coach yesterday, after months of consideration.

The ex-Harimau Muda boss had been in charge of the national team on an interim basis, since Dollah Salleh resigned after that infamous 10-0 defeat against UAE in September 2015.

But FAM were also on a colossal hunt for a replacement since then, with names like Ashley Westwood, Marcel Desailly and Rene Meulensteen linked with the role. But only three candidates ultimately made the final shortlist, and it featured OKS, Bojan Hodak as well as Robert Alberts.

The FAM Task Force eventually settled on appointing Kim Swee, and they made the announcement in a press conference that was hosted at the FAM Office in Kelana Jaya, yesterday.

The news attracted mixed responses from fans – some suggested that it was pointless to appoint a local coach who has no experience at the highest level of football, while some other pointed out that the team needed someone who understood the mechanics of local football as well as Asian football.

Hence we’re throwing the gauntlet right at you. Do you think he’s the right man for the job? Or should FAM have looked elsewhere to fill the position?
