Regarding the news of Liew Daren’s resignation from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), former national player Muhammad Hafiz Hashim has voiced out his support over his decision of continuing his career as a professional player outside of the association.
However, Hafiz urged Daren to be wise in arranging his schedules and training sessions as it will be difficult to adjust to the independence and also the lack of guidance.
“For me, what he did was a smart decision. Maybe he felt more comfortable being outside of BAM. Maybe he was just looking for a fresh start,” said Hafiz as quoted from Bernama.
“However there is one thing that’s hard being a professional player, it’s that he needs to manage himself in terms of schedules and training. The trouble comes when he has to find a sparring partner and a personal coach.”
Meanwhile, with the help of his brother Muhammad Roslin, Hafiz claimed that he is set on training the Kelantan youth team as a preparation for the 2016 Malaysian Games (SUKMA) in Sarawak this July if the offer proposed by the Badminton Association of Kelantan (PBK) will benefit both parties.
“We don’t mind helping the Kelantan players. If there are any more negotiations, I will take it into consideration. However, my brother and I need to think it through because we both have our respective commitments at the moment.”
The last time Kelantan clinched a goal medal was in the 1996 SUKMA, courtesy of Muhammad Roslin in the men’s singles section.
