We believe in Zainal Abidin – Selangor’s Andik Vermansyah

Selangor winger Andik Vermansyah believes that Zainal Abidin is the right man to spearhead their bid for supremacy in 2016, claiming that he’s well-respected within the dressing room.

The Red Giants parted ways with Mehmet Durakovic at the end of last year – appointing Zainal Abidin in a rather controversial move, considering that Mehmet led them to the Malaysia Cup title.

But while the appointment has been largely questioned by fans, Andik sees no reason to rally behind the former Pahang boss.

“He’s very approachable and he’s highly-respected by everyone within the team. Perhaps, his experience as a player and as a coach with Pahang makes it easier for all of us to trust him,” Andik told Harian Metro.

“There is stiff competition to be in the starting eleven and it exists in all positions. Right now, it’s all up to the coach,” he added.

Selangor clinched their 33rd Malaysia Cup title last year, after finishing second on the Super League table. This year though, Andik is hoping to finally be able to lift the coveted MSL title.

“We’ve won the Malaysia Cup and I definitely hope we retain it this year. But additionally, I’d like to also win the Super League title.

“But I know I’ve got to work harder for the team, and also develop a strong understanding with the other players in the team,” he concluded.
