Wimbledon: Federer eases past Murray to book final berth

Roger Federer is through to final of Wimbledon after putting on an impeccable display to dispatch home favourite Andy Murray at the Centre Court just now.

The Swiss superstar took over two hours to clinch a simple three-set victory, winning 7-5, 7-5, 6-4 to book a spot in what will be his 10th Wimbledon final.

The match was expected to be a close one, with both men showcasing impressive displays en route to the semis, but Federer looked superior from the get go.

While the scores for the first two sets suggests otherwise, Federer had the upper hand throughout the match, though Murray did show glimpses of his brilliance as well.

But with FedEx 2-0 up, heading into the third set, Murray’s tempo dropped slightly and that allowed Federer to continue pushing before clinching the final set 6-4.

“It’s been tough. Andy’s been playing well this season,” Federer told BBC Sport.

“There’s so much expectation riding on it, you just have to focus for one more game, and then one more game. You think the break will come.

“I expected four or five sets. I played so well on the biggest occasion today.

“My serve was good again, against one of the best returners. I kept the pressure up and was able to mix it up. it worked out well.”
