BMW Malaysian Open: Jawairiah blames lack of experience for early exit

Malaysia’s only hope in the women’s singles of the BMW Malaysian Open suffered an early exit from the tournament, after being knocked out by Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva.

Jawairiah, who got a wildcard to compete in this tournament, was sent packing by Putintseva after being easily defeated 6-2, 6-1.

The Penang-born player though, isn’t too disheartened by the defeat, claiming that her lack of experience in international competitions caused the huge gap between her and other players within the WTA, including Putintseva.

“I need more competitions to improve my game,” Jawairiah told Utusan Malaysia.

“From what you saw earlier, that was actually the best I could offer in the court. My skills are limited and when I meet with players like Putintseva, my weakness can be easily seen.”

Putintseva will next face Russia’s Elizaveta Kulickova, who defeated seventh seed Bojona Jovanovski with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
