BAM: We can still do well at All England

Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria believes that the Malaysian badminton fraternity can still do well at the All England Championships despite Lee Chong Wei’s absence.

None of the Malaysian shuttlers were seeded for this year’s edition of the competition, something that hasn’t happened in over 45 years. It also means that all the Malaysian shuttlers would have to undergo qualifying rounds to be placed in the main draw.

However, Norza thinks that men’s doubles duo Tan Wee Kiong and Goh V Shem as well as independent players in the form of Arif Latif and Zulfadli Zulkifli, have what it takes to do well in the competition.

“To be realistic, it’ll be difficult for us to achieve something, especially with Chong Wei being absent,” he told Sinar Harian.

“However, I still believe that the existing players within the squad have what it takes to raise the bar and impress. Although they have to go through the qualifying round, I still believe they can produce good results.” he added.
