World number 4 Rafael Nadal secured his first title in nine months, after trashing home favourite Juan Monaco in the Argentina Open final
The Spaniard only needed one hour and 26 minutes to wrap up a comfortable 6-4, 6-1 victory over the Argentine, claiming his first title since the Roland Garros triumph last year.
The top seed broke Monaco’s serve late in the first set but powered through to take a 1-0 lead, before dominating the second set to seal a comfortable straight sets victory.
Nadal’s victory in the Argentina Open means that he has won 46 clay-court titles, equalling the record set by Guillermo Vilas in the Open Era. Besides that, the victory also allowed Nadal to reclaim his third position on the world rankings, pushing Murray back to 5th spot, behind Japan’s Kei Nishikori.
