Former national track cyclist Josiah Ng has turned down the National Sports Council (NSC)’s offer of being the track cycling team manager, to pursue a new direction in his career.
The national track cycling star, who had recently announced his retirement after the Asian Cycling Championship in Thailand this month, revealed that he intends to spend time developing his career in broadcasting and is keen on growing his business.
This decision comes as a blow for NSC, who were extremely keen on getting the 35 year-old on board. But according to Bernama, NSC director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail reiterated that NSC and the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) would respect the decision made by Josiah.
The three-time Olympian made history in 2004, when he became the first ever Malaysian to qualify into the Olympic cycling finals.
The 35 year-old currently holds three Asian Championships gold medals, one gold and bronze medal from the Commonwealth Games and has bagged a medal in every Asian Games he competed in, with three silvers and one bronze medal.
