The Malaysian bowling squad has been expanded to fit more individuals into the team for tournaments, particularly young talents that have impressed in recent times.
In previous years, only 16 bowlers are usually sent to participate in tournaments and they are divided to 8 male and 8 female bowlers.
However, from this year onwards, the national squad will be sending 11 males and 12 females to participate in competitions throughout the year.
According to the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress General Secretary, Cheah Ban Cheng, the new athletes will be selected based on their achievements in tournaments that were held last year.
Following Malaysia’s triumph at the Asian Bowling Championship last month, Ban Cheng believes that most of these junior athletes have what it takes to compete at a more senior level.
“Although they may be young, but these individuals have already made it to the national reserves.” Ban Chang told Harian Metro.
“And they have had the adequate exposure to make them eligible for the elite squad,” he added.
